Author and Northwest Indiana Literary Journal Editor in Chief Joseph S. Pete, a staff writer and columnist at The Times of Northwest Indiana and a frequent guest on Lakeshore Public Radio, will sign copies of his two new books “Lost, Hammond, Indiana” and “100 Things to Do in Gary and Northwest Indiana Before You Die” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday Nov. 6 at Dialogue Book Bar at 601 S. Lake St. in Gary’s Miller neighborhood and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday Nov. 14 at Byway Brewing Company at 2825 Carlson Dr in Hammond. The first 10 people to buy a book at Byway will get a gift certificate covering a six-pack of the Goldblatz Golden Ale that celebrates Hammond’s historic Goldblatt’s Department Store.“Lost Hammond, Indiana” is a rollicking, wide-reaching, and in-depth look at the history of Hammond that originally had the subtitle: “Tales of Jean Shepherd’s ‘A Christmas Story,’ Soap Flake Snow, Sears, a Burning River, Babushkas, Mobsters, a Movie Theater Bombing, Race Cars, Rockette-Dancing Frogs Legs, the Birth of 3 Floyds Brewing, Thrill Killers, and the NFL’s Early Days.” “100 Things to Do in Gary and Northwest Indiana Before You Die” celebrates Region attractions like The Indiana Dunes National Park, the Indiana Dunes State Park, 3 Floyds Brewing, Dark Lord Day, Pierogi Fest, and National Mascot Hall of Fame. It’s a look at all the wacky and wild places worth visiting in the second most populous metro in the Hoosier state.
